Vintage Atlanta tv commercials #2: Video Music Channel

If you lived in Atlanta between 1982 and 1986 and were of a certain age, you undoubtedly remember the Video Music Channel.  The weird videos and wacky VJ’s on the VMC warped my impressionable adolescent mind.  Unlike the placelessness of MTV, the VMC was firmly rooted in Atlanta and all its musical happenings.

I recently interviewed Tom Roche, who was the Production Manager for the VMC, and I’ll share some of his comments in a subsequent post.  For now I’ll pass along a VMC commercial which promoted four of their special shows.

Thank you! There ARE people besides me who remember this!

  2. kyle Says:

I remember this well! This was on before we had MTV on local cable. Remember the Dave Show?

  3. Russell Says:

Dang! I love it. Yes I remember the Dave show with Dave Holmes. VMC was the best.

I’ve been trying to find some old video of that channel, but there is so little out there. I even went through my old VHS tapes and found a little bit of “Metal Works”.

  4. Jeff Says:

I won two records from a “call in” contest. None of those on MTV… my family moved to Charlotte in ’84 and it was there I first found MTV, which I felt was a huge downgrade. No local flavor at all.

  5. Christopher Mitchell (Another Government Employee) Says:

Yep. And the special movies shown after midnight (it WAS channel 69 after all). After the Midnight Special quit showing, it was the best place for music on the tube.

Used some of the personalities as background for a comedy character, Harry Handy (your randy, dandy DJ on Old Farts Radio)

    Fun times.
